Understanding the need
Only about one in six people around the globe live privileged lives, meaning that all of their basic needs are adequately met, and where opportunity, personal safety, healthcare, education and freedom are reasonably assured. We are all diminished by the fact that this is not the case for a substantial majority of our fellow citizens around the globe. We appreciate your desire for a better world.
Understanding our approach and who we are
Anyone can make a difference, but more will be accomplished as more people become involved. Encouraging involvement and helping to make that possible is our primary goal - we call that facilitation. But good intentions are not enough. Our efforts must be "constructive" and they must appropriately serve the interests of people they are intended to help - beneficiaries must be able to determine their own goals, and realize their own dreams, not ours or yours. Interactions between people are "social." The Rhythm of Hope in Brazil pursues constructive social facilitation.
The Rhythm of Hope in Brazil does NOT charge a fee to potential volunteers and is NOT physically located in Brazil - we try to help potential volunteers (and benefactors) find programs to work with. Potential volunteers should not expect - although it could be the case - to secure a well-structured opportunity. Volunteers should be able to handle some chaos and be creative.
Inquiries NOT from (individual) potential volunteers
The Rhythm of Hope in Brazil will make every effort to assist potential benefactors by matching them - as a potential sponsor - to a social program in Brazil. We will also try to assist the media and volunteer vacation and/or other fee charging organizations which bring volunteers to Brazil. However, the media and fee-based programs will be charged a small fee.
We sometimes receive inquiries from tourists, from people wanting to move to Brazil, from people seeking business opportunities or partnerships in Brazil, and from people seeking employment. These inquiries take time to respond to and we do not have time to respond to them.
The Rhythm of Hope in Brazil will always try to accommodate inquiries from teachers, students and young children since doing so helps facilitate literacy about Brazil or about programs helping the less fortunate and encourages the interest of future generations.
